Ancient Sites Take Center Stage as "All of Greece, One Culture 2026" Festival Kicks Off
The Greek Ministry of Culture has launched its sweeping summer arts festival, "All of Greece, One Culture 2026,", bringing 95 new theatrical, musical, and dance productions to archaeological sites, museums, and monuments across the country. The opening week, running from July 1 to July 5, features nine premieres scattered from the ancient island of Delos to northern Greece's Philippi. The entire two-month program revolves around a central theme inspired by the ancient playwright Menander: “How beautiful a person is when they are truly humane.” The opening slate includes “Her Veils,” a musical performance directed by Maria Lappa at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki. Mrs. Lappa's production weaves Middle Eastern poetic narratives with Western traditions. Meanwhile, on the sacred island of Delos, directors Alexandros Avranas and Haris Fragoulis debut “Delos,” a theatrical exploration of language and the human body. Mr. Avranas and Mr. Fragoulis utilize the island's spectacular marble ruins as a raw, natural backdrop for the ambitious performance.…
