Tourist Critical After Cliff Rockfall at Lefkada's Famous Nydri Waterfalls

A 50-year-old Greek-British woman is in critical condition after being struck on the head by a falling rock at the popular Nydri Waterfalls on the Ionian island of Lefkada. The rock detached from a cliff face above the Dimossari Waterfalls, near the resort town of Nydri, as the woman visited the site with a group, according to local media. Emergency crews from the fire brigade and national ambulance service rescued her and rushed her to Lefkada General Hospital, where she remains intubated with severe traumatic brain injuries. Doctors are preparing to transfer her to intensive care, most likely at a hospital in Patras or Ioannina. Several other visitors were at the falls when the rockfall struck. Witnesses scrambled for cover as debris rained down; a small number sustained minor injuries that were not deemed life-threatening. The Dimossari Waterfalls, reached via a short hike through a narrow gorge to a roughly 12-metre cascade and natural pool, are among Lefkada's most-visited natural attractions, drawing thousands of tourists each summer.
