Autopsy Reveals Igoumenitsa Femicide Victim Was Stabbed 15 Times, Nearly Half From Behind

A forensic examination of 25-year-old Pinelopi, killed by her ex-boyfriend last weekend, found she suffered 15 stab wounds, with seven inflicted to her back as she tried to flee, according to findings from Ioannina medical examiner Giannis Aivatidis described as unprecedented in scope. Mr. Aivatidis found three of the seven back wounds penetrated roughly 7.5 centimeters deep — the full length of the pocketknife used in the attack — indicating the intensity of the assault as Pinelopi attempted to escape. She managed only one act of resistance, a defensive wound to her left hand, before her efforts were overcome. The fatal wounds were two deep stabs to her neck that caused uncontrollable bleeding, along with a serious wound to her shin that resulted in significant blood loss. Mr. Aivatidis also documented a wound to her right arm, while three of the back wounds struck her chest, with additional injuries to her stomach, left lung and liver.…
