Mitsotakis Says Dropped OPEKEPE Cases Prove New Democracy Officials Were "Targeted for Political Gain"
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that the dismissal of nine of 13 corruption cases against New Democracy officials investigated by the European Public Prosecutor's Office over farm subsidy fraud proves his party members were "targeted and smeared for partisan gain" before judicial review was complete, accusing the opposition of violating the presumption of innocence. In his weekly, Sunday address, Mr. Mitsotakis said the same presumption applies to the four remaining officials under review, whose cases will proceed under expedited misdemeanor procedures. He reiterated that prosecutions have been brought against more than 2,900 individuals found to have received illegal farm subsidies, with the first convictions already secured. On infrastructure, Mr. Mitsotakis highlighted the newly signed contract for the triple interchange at Skaramagas in western Attica, expected to ease congestion across the Athens basin within 36 months, as well as the completed Rovies-Ilia road in northern Evia and the upgraded Istiaia Health Center, which now includes a six-machine dialysis unit serving the region.…
